There’s no better time to change out your old showerhead for a new water-saving low flow showerhead. The best part? It only takes a couple of minutes and you’ll be on your way to saving money on your water and energy bills, while at the same time doing your part to conserve water. It’s as easy as 1-2-3!

What you’ll need:

1. Your new low flow showerhead
2. Towel
3. Teflon tape (Plumber’s tape)

You may also need the following tools:

1. Adjustable wrench (6 or 8-inch)
2. Slipjoint pliers (8-inch)
3. Rag

First: Removing the old showerhead

Lay the towel over the drain and along the bottom of the tub to protect against any falling debris or tools. First, grasp the showerhead’s base and attempt to turn it counterclockwise, you may be able to remove it by hand. Won’t turn? Go get that rag, wrench, and pliers! Next, wrap the rag around the arm near the flange to protect the finish. Using the slip-joint pliers grip the arm over the rag to keep from twisting and potentially damaging the arm. Then use the adjustable wrench at the showerhead’s base, where it attaches to the arm, twist counterclockwise to loosen and unscrew the showerhead.

Next: Cleaning and preparing the arm

Use the rag to clean the showerhead arm, both the inside of the pipe and the outer threads, removing any debris or remaining Teflon tape to ensure a waterproof fit. Then, on cleaned threads, wrap 2-4 passes of fresh Teflon tape pressing into the threads after each pass.

Last: Installing your new showerhead

Now all that’s left is to screw on the new showerhead! Most models will simply screw on. With these, simply twist the showerhead onto the threads, turning clockwise. Hand-tighten, and turn on the water to check for leaks. Repeat the previous step, adding more tape as needed until you are leak-free. Done!

Now you can enjoy your new luxurious shower while cutting back on the consumption of water, and saving on your water and energy costs!
